Frequently asked questions about darts

Which darts suit me best?

The average dart weighs about 23 grams. In the darts world, the following classification is usually used:

  • Up to and including 23 grams → light darts

  • 24 grams and heavier → heavy darts

For beginner darters, it is often wise to start with darts of 24 grams or heavier. Heavier darts are usually somewhat more stable in the air. As a result, they are less likely to wobble or deviate during flight. This often makes it easier for beginners to throw the dart in a controlled manner towards the board.

Lighter darts can actually be a bit more sensitive to small mistakes in the throw. If your technique is not yet completely stable, a light dart can therefore fly more erratically or land differently than you expect.

When you gain more experience and improve your technique, you can experiment with lighter darts. Some players prefer lighter darts because they:

  • travel faster through the air

  • require less force to throw

  • sometimes better suit a faster or smoother throw

Ultimately, there is no “perfect weight” that works for everyone. The most important thing is to choose a dart that feels comfortable and suits your throwing style well. Many players therefore test different weights (for example 22, 24, and 26 grams) to discover what works best for them.
