Official dartboard height for children: what exactly is it?
Darts is a great game for both children and adults. For adults and the official rules, there is a lot of information available online, but you might wonder: “What is the official height of a dartboard for children?” In this article, we explain it clearly.
Official height of a dartboard for children
During official matches, including youth competitions, the dartboard is always hung at a height of 1.73 meters (measured from the bullseye to the floor).
There are no different rules for children: the height remains the same.
The throwing distance also does not change. The official throwing distance is 2.37 meters from the oche (throw line) to the front of the dartboard.
Practical advice for young children
Although the above are the official rules, it is usually advisable to deviate from them for young children. Darts is mainly about posture, precision, and technique, not about strength.
When a dartboard is hung at the official height for small children, they often have to throw too hard, which causes:
it to resemble spear throwing more
them to learn an incorrect technique
Therefore, we recommend hanging the dartboard lower temporarily until your child is big enough to throw properly.
