A staple-free dartboard is a board where the wiring (also called the spider) is recessed or embedded into the sisal, instead of being mounted on top. This causes the wiring to be flush with the surface of the board. When you throw a dart close to the wiring, it slides along it and sticks neatly into the board. This significantly reduces the number of bouncers (darts that bounce out) and provides a more professional playing experience.
On non-staple-free dartboards, the wiring sits slightly higher on the board. It is often attached with metal rings or staples that are visible pressed into the sisal. This increases the chance that your dart will hit the wiring and bounce out of the board.
How do you recognize a staple-free dartboard?
The wiring lies flat or recessed in the sisal, not on top of it.
There are no metal staples or rings visible around the segments.
Darts stay in better and the number of bouncers is noticeably smaller.
