Frequently asked questions about dartboards

How long does my dartboard stay in good condition?

The lifespan of a dartboard depends heavily on its usage. The more often a dartboard is used, the faster it wears out. The way of throwing also plays an important role: hard throws can damage the board faster than gentle throws.

A distinction is made between recreational and professional boards. Winmau and Unicorn are currently considered the best boards on the market. Recreational darters are often less critical about wear, while professional darters will replace a board faster as soon as irregularities in the sisal become visible. An exact lifespan is therefore difficult to give; it entirely depends on how the board is used.

Tips to extend the lifespan of your dartboard:

  • Rotate the board regularly: This ensures even wear of the segments. The number ring is easy to remove so the board can be rotated. With an average of 1 hour of darting per day, it is recommended to rotate the board a few segments weekly.

  • Maintain your darts: Sharpen or replace the points of your darts regularly. Dull or damaged darts cause damage to the fibres of the sisal. Point sharpening can be easily done with a sharpening stone or an electronic point sharpener.

  • Choice of dart points: Preferably use smooth points, as dart points with grip can damage the sisal faster.

With these simple measures, your dartboard will stay in good condition longer and you will play consistently better.
