Wear of Darts and Dart Tips

Coatings on Darts and Dart Tips

A coating is a thin layer (or multiple layers) of paint or finish applied to a product.

In dart products, coatings are applied to:

  • Dart barrels (for example, for color accents or extra grip)

  • Dart tips (for example, a colored finish)

The coatings applied to darts and dart tips are very thin. This is done intentionally so that the weight and balance of the dart are not affected.

Wear of Coatings

Coatings can wear off over time due to normal use. This is a normal occurrence and cannot be completely prevented. How quickly a coating wears depends mainly on how often and how intensively the darts are used.

Some examples:

  • Dart barrels: when darts are thrown close together and collide with each other (so-called grouping), the coating can become damaged or wear off.

  • Dart tips: when the tip regularly hits the metal wires (spiders) of the dartboard, the coating on the tip can gradually wear off.

The wear of a coating has no effect on the function or performance of the dart, but it can cause a change in the appearance of the product over time.
